José Salinas
Forgotten

Series Forgotten addresses José Salinas’s obsession for heads. He sees heads everywhere he looks. The heads depict issues of gender and identity. Female and male heads emerge from the deep monochrome background with imperturbable serenity and proximity.

In Forgotten José Salinas retrieves unconscious characters stored in his memory time ago that were ones forgotten. The memory consciously stores images and in parallel; unconsciously stores other images that are kept dormant, until we retrieve them. Through time those image get distorted, deformed and de-contextualized. However, they remain within.

For José Salinas the distortions, deformations and de-contextualization are part of a sociological and cultural process that transforms our perceptions and intimate knowledge through time.
