Matthew Tickle
Idyll

Matthew Tickle is an artist whose works are describing a dematerialising arc. Naturally able as a maker and constructor early works addressed building scale structural elements such as the column and balcony reordering material, form and function to disrupt settled relationships between viewer, artwork and architecture.

An abiding interest in photography first as a means of documentation and later as an end in itself has interacted with this physicality resulting in a protracted examination of the limits of perception and physical experience especially in light of modern scientific theories of the very large and very small. Also at issue in his work are the consequences of these concepts, developed to describe physical systems, finding their way into political discourse.
